CoVID-19 has changed my career path…again

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed the lives of many. Everyone has had to change one thing or another in their life. From grocery shopping, to kids activities, to personal health, to careers. Some have had to change where they work, others have had to pivot their careers all together, IF they even have a job anymore.

I am on my fourth career. Yes! 4th. Two of my career changes were because I no longer wanted to sit behind a desk or in front of a computer for 8+ hours a day. For the last 4 years I have been very fortunate to do what I love, which has been helping people to achieve a better version of themselves through strength and fitness.

Strength and fitness require movement, and that is where my passion comes from: movement or the ability to move. Not being planted at a desk chair. The irony is, I have once again found myself in a position where I am sitting in front of a computer. Just like many of you, I have had to completely pivot my career and I am sitting behind a desk again. My business of interacting with people and coaching them through movements and workouts has been shifted to the worldwide web.

In the first few days of COVID-19 affecting businesses in Maryland, my initial thought was, “how am I going to be able to interact with people now?” I was completely paralyzed by the fact that I wouldn’t be able to work for awhile. And then, there was that sinking feeling that I wouldn’t be able to provide for my family.

Thanks to my mentors, family, and friends, I was able to get out of that paralyzed state and shift my business of helping people in-person to helping people virtually. While I’m not completely thrilled about sitting behind a desk again, the number of people I can help has increased exponentially. The ability to extend my reach to more people has given me a sense of purpose through these difficult and uncertain times. I love helping people feel better about themselves, and the fact that I can do that with people I haven’t even met face-to-face is incredible.

Even through difficult times, people have the ability to adapt and overcome any situation. We are facing a global pandemic with catastrophic effects. For most, lives have changed. That change might have been as simple as grocery shopping at a different time. Maybe, that change was finding a way to improve health and fitness at home. For me, I have had to change the way I help people, even going back to behind a desk to do so.
